Five Defining Characteristics of a Winning Heated Well

Considering the array of options, finding the best heated wells for any foodservice business is no small task. What’s “best” will depend on an operation’s specific needs. With that said, there are a few non-negotiables that every well must have — regardless of use case. At a basic level, great heated wells will meet operator and customer needs, keep food at safe temperatures, preserve food quality, and minimize energy and food waste. But beyond that, there are other characteristics that separate the best heated wells from all the rest. Here’s what to look for.

1. Thick gauge steel

For starters, operators want a well that’s built to last, so make sure the material and insulation are quality. As with any equipment, heated wells need to withstand the rigorous wear and tear of their foodservice environment. Material matters, and thin gauge pans with low-quality stainless steel won’t hold up in the long run. Wells that can weather the test of time will have insulated, thick gauge steel. 2. Thermostatic controls

The “low” heat source constantly feeds the well, causing the temperature to build and keep rising. Moral of the story? Go with thermostatic controls.
