Let's Make Some Chelkys

Let's Make Some Chelkys

2020-11-09

The Hatco/Suntec Snack System raises the bar on multi-purpose equipment and gives operators the freedom to explore new revenue-driving menus that keep customers coming back. With seven cooking plates available, operators can serve everything from breakfast items, lunch foods, and various snacks in between.

One question we're asked is, 'What is a Chelky?' A Chelky is a sweet, croissant-like snack and is one of the seven plates available with the Snack System. What's great about the Chelky plate is you can create some delicious sweet and savory treats with items you can find right at your grocery store!

So, with that being said, let's make some Chelkys! Hatco Dealer Sales Manager Dan Frigo has crafted up some delicious recipes for you to try. Enjoy!

When making these recipes, you’ll need these tools: Hatco/Suntec Snack System, Chelky plates, tongs and a cooling rack.

Please note that all measurements, times and temperatures in these recipes are approximate and only recommendations. You can tailor these recipes to your taste!

1. Imitation Chelky

Extra tools needed for this recipe:

  • Pastry brush

Ingredients:

  • Pillsbury™ Crescent Dough Sheets (1 sheet will make 4 Chelkys)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • ⅛ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup Baker’s Sugar
  • Ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Food release spray (baker’s style)

Directions:

  1. Set Snack System to 300ºF and timer to 8 minutes (differential to 8).
  2. Open the crescent dough sheet and roll out, taking care not to stretch the dough. It should be a 12” x 7” sheet, left to right.
  3. Melt about 2 tablespoons butter and spread evenly with pastry brush across the crescent dough sheet.
  4. Sprinkle with about ⅛ cup of granulated sugar. (Optional: sprinkle a little ground cinnamon on top of that sugar.)
  5. Cut the sheet into 4 even pieces, which should be about 3” x 7” each.
  6. Roll each piece and twist it a few times until slightly tight. Set aside.
  7. Roll each piece on a plate with Baker's Sugar, lightly coating each Chelky.
  8. Wipe the food release spray onto the Chelky platen.
  9. Place the pieces into the Chelky platen and bake for 8 minutes.
  10. When the timer sounds, open the Snack System and let the Chelkys cool for a couple of minutes, then remove and serve.
